- Consider your character. We are happy to brainstorm ideas in Discord.
- Register an account on the forum. This will be your writer account. See below.
- Post the new character bio in the New Characters board. Templates are in the pinned post.
- When the bio is complete, notify staff who will review and approve
How accounts work
Each writer has one account with multiple character profiles. These work similarly to subaccounts on other platforms. Each character has its own profile, avatar, post count, signature, etc. When making a post, choose the character you're using from the dropdown.
Character building
Here is a summary of the types of characters at De Arcana. Click through to the wiki for more detail
Magical people called wix or the Touched have innate magical ability and live with one foot in a secret hidden society. Most of them went to normal school, but were magically educated in a coven associated with their family. Most live in 'enclaves': magical neighborhoods or villages. Some wix have a favour, a special ability. All wix have a magical focus, and many have a familiar. Some wix have regular jobs, others have magical jobs.
Normal people may have special permission to access the Betwixt by way of a family connection. These visitors are watched and carry a magical talisman that identifies them and reveals hidden things.
Coblynau and coblyn-humans (bazzin) are a green- or grey-skinned magical people who live below Edinburgh in a sprawling city. They look much like humans, but a little shorter and have pointed ears. They have their own kind of magic and culture and don't always mesh well with humans.
Banshees and banshee-humans (caoiní) look very much like humans but are not. They all look like women, have magical voice magic, and can speak with the dead.
Vampires were once humans risen from the dead and remade as a new being of origins as old as the Fae, they say. They are burned in the sun, must drink blood to live, and have special magical abilities.
Caliban are like Crafted androids, made with corrupted magic by wix. Their making has been forbidden for a hundred years so only the most convincing remain. They look just like people, save a few key details.

This is an original setting so writers will need to become familiar with the lore. Questions are best directed in the appropriate channels in Discord.
