Clairvoyance
Clairvoyance is one of four favours a wix may inherit. It is the genuine ability to divine the future through visions, signs and omens. Those born with this ability are known as soothsayers, augurs and oracles.
How one's clairvoyance expresses itself is idiosyncratic - it differs from one soothsayer to another.
Visions & Omens
The timing of a vision (glimpse of the future) or omen cannot be precisely determined.
Mind-altering substances - herbs, fungi, drugs - may be consumed to better 'open' your mind to the possibility. There are rituals that can be undertaken to encourage visions and omens in connection to a specific person or object.
Many soothsayers become aware of their gift when they witness their first vision or omen as a child. Some, however, may not realise they are favoured until much older.
Scrying
Scrying is another term for divination craft. It can take many forms.
Soothsayers may have knack for some forms of divination craft and may experiment with different forms for years before settling on a method that suits them best - which is to say, the method most reliable.
Examples:
- Tasseography - divination through tea leaves, coffee grounds, etc
- Haruspicy - interpreting the entrails of dead animals
- Tarot card reading
- Numerology - divination through numbers
- Lithomancy - interpreting the future through stones or the reflected light of stones
- Palmistry - interpreting palm lines
