I. Welcome

Legend says that long ago, the great Fae intermingled with humanity gifting them with innate magic. Their descendents became wix - magical people Touched by the Fae.

For modern history, the Touched have lived in the world, keeping their Craft and culture secretly alongside the wider mundane world. They go to school, they go to work. But they also learn magic from from covens run by a priestess class, keep strong family ties between houses in enclaves, and do business with coblynau, banshees, and vampires.

Welcome to the Betwixt, where a dark, modern urban fantasy awaits.

II. Rules

All members must follow the Code of Conduct.

• We do not accept personal attacks especially when it concerns race, religion, disability, gender, sexuality, class, disability, age, or nationality
• We shall treat each other with respect
• We honor others' boundaries concerning sensitive topics in the role-play
• We will take responsibility for our own fun

AI is not permitted at De Arcana.

Role-playing

• Use the default font and color for role-playing posts
• Roleplay is done in 3rd person past tense
• Take turns and be courteous
• Only control the actions, reactions, speech, or thoughts of your own character
• Your character can only know what they have reason to know
• In-character actions have in-character consequences

Activity

There is no minimum activity requirement, but expect a weekly pace. We sweep for inactive characters every couple months. Inactive characters may be archived.

New writers start with one character. After 20 in-character posts, you can make up to 5 characters. Characters must be approved by staff before play.

Inactive characters/writers may return by simply posting again. No paperwork required.



Don't take on more than you can keep up with. It's discourteous to overcommit then leave others hanging.

NPCs

Non-player characters are encouraged. These background, supporting, or plot-specific characters don't need an application. Use your NPC character account as you wish, and document NPCs in the wiki.

Avatars

• Avatars are optional
• If you use a real person, they should be an actor
• If you use art, you must have permission from the artist
• Aesthetic avatars are allowed
• No animated avatars
• No AI generated images or edits

Face Claim Registry

Regarding coblyn, bazzin, banshees, and caoiní: It's not necessary to photo edit for green skin, pointed ears, or red eyes, etc. You may, but it's not required. We can use our imaginations.

Content rating

De Arcana has an RPG Rating of 333. This is an adult role-play and grown-up themes should be expected from time to time. Writers should communicate well about what they're comfortable with and mark potentially sensitive, troubling or NSFW threads with an [M] with a note in the first post.

Prohibited topics include r*pe and p*dophilia.

Per our web host's terms and conditions we do not post content that is obscene, seditious, vulgar, pornographic, sexually explicit, discriminatory, or deceptive.

Discord

Joining in the Discord is optional, but it is the best way to stay involved and up-to-date. Be familiar with the Discord-specific rules in the #welcome channel. Visitors are welcome to join the Discord as they consider joining, but lurkers will be periodically pruned.

III. Staff and credits

Staff wish to make the roleplay fun and welcoming. We commit to curating lore and story, caretaking the website, encouraging a community of respect, and enforcing the rules fairly. Constant or egregious rule-breakers or bad apples will be banned.
